After you receive the electronic copy of your Form I-20 from your university, complete the following steps before booking your visa appointment:

- Check that the details on your Form I-20 are correct (including your date of birth) and make sure your name is the same as it appears on your passport.
- Sign-up for your free Shorelight Connect account and complete the Mastering Your U.S. Visa Interview self-paced course. Please contact connect@shorelight.com for questions or login assistance.
- If needed, schedule a free visa preparation session with your personal Enrollment Advisor by emailing admissions@shorelight.com after completing the visa course.
After you complete the above steps, you should apply for your visa as soon as possible. It requires an interview with the U.S. Embassy and can sometimes take several weeks to schedule.

- Complete your Visa Application.
- Pay your I-901 (SEVIS) fee.
- Visit usembassy.gov to learn more about scheduling your visa appointment, what to expect when you arrive and the documentation you need to take with you.
- Notify your personal Enrollment Advisor of the date and embassy of your visa appointment.

We are so excited for you to join us on campus! To ensure a smooth transition to your new home, plan to arrive on or before your official move-in day. Airport pickup is available at Miami International Airport (MIA).
Once you book your flights, you must fill out the student arrival form. If your family is joining you, you must also complete the family arrival form.

To avoid delays with your enrollment, please ensure your payment is made in full at least two weeks before your arrival.
Before you start, have your acceptance letter handy, as you’ll need it for reference.

You will need to complete and submit the following required forms before your arrival.
- Immunization Form: Complete this mandatory immunization form and send it to immune@fiu.edu and copy G1Y@globalfiu.com at least 3 weeks prior to the mandatory semester check-in date. FIU requires proof of immunization for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR). Hepatitis B and Meningitis requirements can be waived on the immunization form. Students who are not in full immunization compliance cannot be enrolled in classes and may be subject to a late registration fee of $100 if not enrolled by August 23, 2026 for fall 2026.
- Consent for Treatment of a Minor: This form needs to be completed by the parent/guardian of any student who will be under the age of 18 during their enrollment at FIU. The Consent Form asks for a US Phone Number. If the parent/guardian does not have a US phone number, enter zeros in the phone number field then enter the international phone number in the field below.
- FIU Liability Waiver. This form should be completed by students who are or will be 18 years or older prior to enrollment at FIU.
- FERPA (Family Education Rights & Privacy Act) Form This form provides FIU Global First Year with additional permissions needed to best support students and allows students to give access to their academic records to any individual of their choosing. Students must have already set up their MyFIU accounts before being able to complete this form.
- Submit Your FIU One Card Photo Submit your photo ahead of time and if approved, your OneCard may be printed and waiting for you at check-in.
