Happy Holidays from Global First Year!
The Student Services team has been busy this past month, ensuring that our Global First Year students make the most of their first Christmas season here in then United States! While the weather in Miami isn’t exactly your typical winter weather, the happenings on and around campus certainly have been!
Before most of our students left campus to return home for the holidays after final exams, Student Services spread the Christmas cheer, delivering cards and candy canes to the dorms. Students participated in festive activities such as Christmas shopping excursions to a nearby mall, an outing to see a performance of “The Nutcracker,” and a viewing of the beloved holiday classic, “How the Grinch stole Christmas!”
Most of our Global First Year students returned to their home countries for the holidays, the first time they have been home since embarking on this adventure in the United States! They are finally enjoying some well earned rest and relaxation after a successful first semester at FIU.
A handful of students stayed on campus for the holidays, and while things around here certainly slowed down after finals, there have still been plenty of activities to keep our students busy and in the Christmas spirit! Students recently spent an afternoon making Gingerbread houses, or “Christmas houses” as they kept referring to them as! Tonight, the Student Services team has organized a trip to the Miami tradition, “Santa’s Enchanted Forest,” a Christmas themed amusement park complete with rides, games and holiday treats.
While we’ve certainly made the most of this holiday season here at Global FIU, we are ready and excited to see our current students return to campus, to welcome and start a new group of Global First Year students, and to embark upon an exciting spring semester here at FIU!
