Life at FIU

Why I love Global First Year at FIU! – G1Y Student Voice

cintia (1)

My name is Cintia and I’m an international student from Angola and my intended major is environmental engineering. I entered FIU through the Global First Year program. Global First Year (G1Y) definitely exceeded my expectations. When I first came to FIU I thought it would be difficult to adapt, however, when a got here I saw that the G1Y Team is a dedicated team willing to help us to adapt and to progress to our second year of university. G1Y provided me with a smooth, fun and cultural school year.

Being a part of the G1Y helped me get more involved with FIU’s  activities. I am a G.L.O.W. (Global Leaders Outreach Workgroup) representative for Fall 2018. In my point of view, in order to be successful at FIU it’s important to participate in activities because they are the opportunities to help us gain networking opportunities and learn more information about what is going on at FIU.

G1Y gives as the opportunity to learn about the culture of other countries. For example, we organized a international party with food and music from the countries that the G1Y represents.

FIU is a university with so much to offer! I’ve been to the football games, tailgates, volunteering opportunities and G1Y trips. Don’t wait to get involved! Go PANTHERS!!
