Global First Year celebrates Thanksgiving
Last Wednesday night, some of our very own students planned and organized a Thanksgiving Dinner on campus so the entire Global First Year program could experience this beloved American holiday tradition!
Students embraced their Global First Year “family” and sat side by side as they shared what they are grateful for and feasted on typical American Thanksgiving staples such as turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and pumpkin pie.
“My favorite was the pumpkin pie, I’ve never had it before but it is actually really good – even though I thought at first it was a bit strange to eat a dessert made of pumpkin!” said Global First Year student, Santiago Chirino, from Mexico.
After dinner, students signed a banner expressing what they are thankful for and many gave thanks for their families back home, friends at home and here in Miami, their education and the opportunity they have to study here in the United States at FIU with Global First Year.
“It is a really nice tradition I think,” said Global First Year student Bhumi Patel from India. “To take a day to give thanks and express what you are grateful for in life.”
