Global FIU welcomes over 90 new International Students!
The Global First Year program at FIU welcomed over 90 new students last week from 24 different countries – the program’s most diverse cohort to date! Some of the most represented countries in the group are Venezuela, India, Mexico, and Brazil. There are some new countries in the mix too though – such as Iran, Pakistan, Honduras, and Spain!
New students were welcomed to campus with an Olympics themed welcome party, which even featured cupcakes for the students decorated with flags from all of their home countries! The students spent the evening getting to know each other and preparing for a week full of orientation activities.
Orientation week was a busy one – presentations, placement exams, and class registration. But, students had some time for fun, too – participating in a scavenger hunt challenge that took them all over campus and plenty of bonding time over meals in the dining halls and ice breaker activities!
Orientation ran seamlessly thanks to the awesome Student Services team at Global FIU, as well as the “GOLS” or global orientation leaders, past students of the program now assisting with orienation for new students, answering their questions and making them feel right at home with plenty of advice, insight and guidance!
